Faeborne | Lion Statue

Hello there ! I had the pleasure to create this statue for the game Faeborne, this was an interesting challenge as I never did sculpt in this kind of art direction, the goal was to have some kind of "gargoyle" feeling. I had some fun also by creating the smartmaterial here to get the old stone effect in 3DCoat, due to the realism aimed for the asset I didn't dig much into texture painting. I added the cracks directly in 3DCoat (simply by placing them like you would do in ZBrush, but here what interested me was that it mixes the depth over the bake, so I can play with various layouts of cracks easily. Also, having them on a painted layer allowed me to precisely extract a displace map, which I used to deform the model quickly near those cracks. This adds up to the normalmap detail a lot

I also want to thank the team from Conical for such a cool opportunity to work with them, and particularly Brad Thomson for his solid leadership on the 3D art team, this helped me a lot while crafting these assets =)
