Vyder | Midasi

I made this realtime character for the project Vyder from "3K ELO" based on conceptarts by Romain d'Escrienne : https://www.artstation.com/makkhariel
I made most of it in ZBrush for the modeling, then the texturing was a mix of assembling good gradients in photoshop and laying out UVs in 3dsmax where I wanted specific colors from these gradients. Then as usual, rig/skin/posings in akeytsu (animation for the game was done by Thomas Chaumel : https://www.artstation.com/keyblack)

The Midasi was a way to try out a new way to texture characters I never experimented before, I chose that way of texturing for a simple reason : since the first version of Vyder we changed the camera view, from a close range to a far camera view, and more importantly, we're now in 2.5D. Which means characters are smaller, so you need to see them rapidly and digging into the usual handpaint PBR wasn't a viable option.
